Listening to LotR, where Gandalf needs something to work on to make fire by spell, and elves say they don't know what Sam means by the cloaks being magic. Good example of indistinct line bw science and magic. Something we hobbits can't explain may be simple to others, of difficult but the work of wisdom and skill. So Feanor and Saruman are revered for skill with hands, not just wisdom. The are revered for magic power.
This ties in to the view that everything yet to be explained by science is best described as magic, since we can't know which things will eventually be understood. We either have faith that science will explain them, or call it magic. This idea came up in story by Trainspotting author. Magic is the absence of explanation, not the presence of no explanation.
